During his career he has excelled in using basic science to solve technological problems. For example, the development of optical logic gates based on quantum dots (awarded with the IDEA 2011 prize); or the invention of a new method for the measurement of lifetimes in semiconductor impurities (patented method). He has also demonstrated his ability to develop low-cost instrumentation. For example, during his PhD thesis he built the first near-field microscope in Spain, combining parts of his own design with recycled scanning electronics from a conventional microscope. Currently, his research is oriented towards the design of ultra-compact instrumentation: through the design of stacked nano-devices and extended nano-devices: nano-devices with an active surface of 2’.
